What Is Scuba Diving
Scuba diving is an activity or sport that allows people the opportunity to explore what lies beneath the surface of the ocean. SCUBA is an acronym for self contained underwater breathing apparatus, by using scuba we are able to move freely underwater with more time that if we just hold our breath. Originally the first Scuba Divers wore much bigger suits and pieces of equipment than we use today now its as simple as packing a bag and going diving. Some of the more common words used to describe diving are peaceful, relaxing and exciting. In order to safely go diving, you need to take an entry level scuba certification course or go on a discover scuba diving experience (try out dive) with a diving professional. Underwater Vision is a PADI Career Development Center located on Utila in the Bay Islands of Honduras.This means we offer PADI courses for anyone from entry level (never having dived before) to PADI Staff Instructor (someone who can help teach Instructors). PADI Stands for the Professional Association of Diving Instructors they are the certification organization that creates courses and standards that comply with the International standards organization for teaching recreational scuba diving. PADI certifications are valid for life and recognized all over the world! How Long Does it Take To Become A Certified Diver?
Becoming a certified Open Water Diver takes three to four days depending on the schedule. During this time you will spend time in the classroom watching videos and learning about the equipment and theory used for recreational scuba diving. You will spend time in confined water right off the Underwater Vision dock where you will first see and practice the skills in a calm and clear environment making it easy and fun. Then you will go on two separate boat trips to one of the many dives sites surrounding Utila where you will apply what you learned in the classroom and confined water on four separate open water dives. During your open water dives you will be able to see the reef and the many creatures that call it home!
Scuba Diving in Utila
Utila, sitting in the Caribbean Sea 29 kilometers (18 miles) from the coast of Honduras only 11 km long and 4 km at its widest point is one of the most unique and affordable diving destinations in the Caribbean. Surrounded by the Mesoamerican reef system filled with sea life lies Utils, the smallest of the Bay Islands. The island is one of the most unique and beautiful places in the world. One of its many attributes is that it is affordable to vacationers and backpackers alike.
The waters around Utila are 28-29 degrees Celsius most of the year, with pristine 30 meter visibility, calm water conditions and some of the most beautiful reefs making it the perfect place to become a certified diver or a Dive Professional! Utila and Underwater Vision have an excellent record for training divers to be confident and comfortable at any certification level, we also pride our self on making sure the course in not only thorough and safe but also fun!
