Project AWARE Fish Identification
Part of the fun that comes with Scuba Diving is observing a new ecosystem with all of its varied creatures in their natural environment. Once you get back to the surface, it helps to be able to identify what you saw in order learn more about them or to converse about them and their habits with your fellow divers around Utila and with the PADI Professionals at Underwater Vision and at the many other adventurous dive destinations your passion for scuba will take you!
Project AWARE Coral Reef Conservation
The Project AWARE Coral Reef Conservation Specialty course is designed to inform you about the world’s coral reefs-the state they are in and the impact climate change, over fishing and land development (to name a few) are having on them. This specialty at Underwater Vision will teach divers about the specific threats to the reef surrounding Utila, the importance of the reef and how it functions, as well as how to best conserve and protect it and the creatures which make it home, in order to ensure bountiful, healthy dive destination for generations to come.
PADI Boat Diver
Diving and boats go hand and hand. Most of the dive sites around Utila are only accessible by boats although there are many dive sites around the world that can be reached by land (shore diving), don’t limit yourself and your diving adventures by being inexperienced on boats!All boats are different. Depending on where you are in the world the dive boats are as diverse as the cuisine, people and marine life!
PADI Deep Diver
There is something alluring about the deep blue water to a diver who has had a little experience. What is out there? What creatures may I encounter? For those divers who are ready to dive a little deeper, the PADI Deep Diver Course will take you to some of the deeper sites around Utila to experience deeper water diving and to encounter the creatures which make the mysterious deeper zones their homes!
PADI Digital Underwater Photographer
Underwater photography is becoming more and more popular on Utila as elsewhere as digital cameras become cheaper and easier to use. This fun course will allow you to capture your memories of diving in Utila to share with others. The PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course will teach you basic camera techniques and how to properly and safely use the appropriate Underwater Camera Housings. Learn the secrets to taking optimal underwater photos of the marine environment from the experienced instructors at Underwater Vision.
PADI Drift Diver
Learn to go with the flow and let the ocean current do the work for you as you glide effortlessly and safely along, relaxing and enjoying the view of Utila's reef and the creatures that live there as if on a moving conveyor belt under the sea! The PADI Drift Diver Specialty course at Underwater Vision will show you how to safely dive purposefully in currents by learning proper communication techniques with your dive buddy, the boat and important orientation skills. You will also improve your buoyancy skills to maximize your dive time and learn how to use equipment specific to diving with a current.
PADI Enriched Air Diver
Many PADI students in Utila choose to take the popular PADI Enriched Air Diver course. Scuba diving on Enriched air Nitrox generally allows divers to increase the length of their dives and enables them to spend less time on the surface between dives.Spend more time on the fantastic dive sites around Utila as a PADI Enriched Air Diver! Don’t miss out on turtle, eagle ray, dolphin or whale shark sightings due to short decompression times! Diving on Nitrox is sure to give you more time spent under the waves especially when doing repetitive dives thereby increasing your chances of such sightings!
PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider
Studies have shown that the rapid administration of oxygen at the onset of symptoms of DCS after a diving accident may have an immediate effect on the alleviation of symptoms, but could also reduce the severity of the injuries sustained significantly! All divers should know how to be of assistance during a diver-related accident and knowing how to administer emergency oxygen might be the most important skill.Be prepared to help your fellow dive buddies in Utila and beyond and become a PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider.
PADI Multilevel Diver
No diver is ever really happy when a dive must come to an end. PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy
As a scuba diver you are well aware of the term neutral buoyancy. The concept is easy to understand: you neither sink nor float. However, actually achieving this while scuba diving takes a bit of practice.The divers who excel at neutral buoyancy use less effort and therefore consume less air allowing them longer bottom time. They have minimal to no impact on the reef surrounding Utila or elsewhere and are able to ascend, descend and hover effortlessly making their dives as relaxing as possible.
